After their dealings with Universal and Fox to work on the Halo movie fell through, Microsoft had no choice but to start looking elsewhere. According to Peter Jackson’s representative Ken Kamins, they are already in talks with several other potential partners to help continue work on the movie.

Daniel Craig Returning as James Bond in 4 More Films!

Filed under: Uncategorized — doctorfeelgood @ 1:45 pm

Daniel Craig as James Bond

We already know Daniel Craig will be returning as James Bond in the 22nd film that’s currently shooting and due out next November, but that’s not it. MGM president Harry Sloan has confirmed that they’re bringing back Daniel Craig for four more James Bond films, making him the star in at least five total. How does he shape up to the other Bond actors over the years?

So far I’m quite impressed with Craig as Bond, but he still doesn’t beat Roger Moore or even Sean Connery. Here are all the other films each Bond actors has done.

Sean Connery – 6

Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever

George Lazenby – 1

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Roger Moore – 7

Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View to a Kill

Timothy Dalton – 2

The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill

Pierce Brosnan – 4

GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day

Daniel Craig – 5+

Casino Royale, Bond 22 – 25

This definitely looks positive and I’m glad to see the Bond franchise continue to grow with Craig in the lead.

He’s really building quite a career for himself starring in a number of other non-Bond movies that hit this year as well, including the upcoming Golden Compass. He also has likely roles in upcoming Fame, Death Wish and Thomas Crown Affair films.

Taser death at Vancouver Airport

Filed under: Cool Stuff — doctorfeelgood @ 7:08 pm

Akezys says: “Recently police at the Vancouver airport were attempting to question a recent immigrant that could not speak English. They tasered him after 24 seconds of speaking with him. The man had spent 10 hours stuck in the airport with no-one helping him.”

200710261422
The 40-year-old construction worker, who had never left Poland before, was immigrating to Canada to join his mother, 61, who lives in Kamloops, about a five-hour drive from Vancouver.

They had arranged to meet at the baggage carousel in the international terminal at YVR….

Mr. Dziekanski arrived at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14.

“He made his way to primary customs in the ordinary fashion … he went through there in the normal time frame … he then proceeded through and was directed to secondary customs, which is normal for someone who doesn’t speak English and is immigrating to the country,” Mr. Kosteckyj said. His papers were in order and he proceeded without difficulty.

But what happened after that was far from normal. For nearly 10 hours, Mr. Dziekanski stayed in the Arrivals Hall, growing increasingly frustrated and eventually becoming frantic.

Outside, in the public area, his mother spent nearly six hours pacing the corridors and, in broken English, asking airport officials for help in locating her son.

Mr. Kosteckyj said she visited one booth in international arrivals “at least three to four times and conveyed to them that she was concerned about her son being in the area and she wanted to get a message to him and how could she do that? They wrote her name down and said that they would make inquiries.”

At about 10 p.m., she was told he wasn’t there. She made the long drive home, only to find a phone message waiting, saying her son had been found.

“She called back to immigration when she got in, which would have been around 2 a.m., and spoke to someone there and was advised that her son was somewhere in the area and was fine. And she advised, you know, ‘Please take care of him because he can’t speak English and I’ll get there as soon as I can.’ And of course he had died, been killed really, some time on or about 1 or 1:30,” Mr. Kosteckyj said.

LOLCat programming language: LOLCode

Filed under: Cool Stuff — doctorfeelgood @ 7:18 am

Programmers have created a functional programming language based on the peculiar speech of LOLCats. Linguists may analyze the grammar of LOLCats, but hackers make it DO STUFF. From Nick’s Blog: “LOLCode is an emerging esoteric (and hilarious) language based on the dialect used in LOLCats images. It’s been siezed upon by a group of people (myself included, now), and is being expanded into a real, workable, turing complete esoteric language (though nobody has proven its turing completeness yet!). The LOLCode.NET compiler is now working, and as a nearly-free bonus for using the .NET platform, you can even debug it in Visual Studio.”

Check Out The New Windows Home Server Demo. But Why Is It In Flash?

Filed under: Cool Stuff — doctorfeelgood @ 7:17 am

Microsoft PR sent out a link to this slick new Windows Home Server Demo this afternoon. Nothing really notable about it (although I do want one)…except the demo is in Flash.

Microsoft has been pushing their alternative framework to Flash called Silverlight since announcing it earlier this year, even going so far as to have a new search user interface created that shows off some of the Silverlight features. Did the memo never get to the Windows Home Server team? Eat your own dogfood, or else no one else will.

Of course, everyone has Flash on their computer, and few have Silverlight installed. So what does Microsoft want more – Silverlight installations or sales of Windows Home Servers? I guess the answer is – servers.

System Requirements Lab

Seen on DL.TV

I like this tool – it is kewl. It says my lowly desktop at work can actually play Orange Box respectively (hm, noon hours…). Minimum not recommended. Bioshock came in worse! ! ! but still playable at a minimum. Thankfully my cheapo Dell here at work actually has a 6800 for rockin’ the vids, which is way faster than the model before which had a 5200 (owch). I am hoping my 3800+ x2 / 6800GS at home shows up better. Although I only have 1GB of Ram at home. I play Bioshock at home just fine so we will see how it looks when I get home (when I remember).

Here is a screener of the results for my Dell Dimension 4700 ($500 box at work):

As researchers test their versions of Storm by connecting to Storm command-and-control servers, the servers seem to recognize these attempts as threatening. Then either the worm itself or the people behind it seem to knock them off the Internet by flooding them with traffic from Storm’s botnet, Korman says.

Jewel Staite sets us, um, Straight

Filed under: Firefly — doctorfeelgood @ 5:46 pm

“Sorry Browncoats, but it just ain’t so. This rumor all started a few weeks back when Alan Tudyk made some comments that were taken out of context and presumed to be talk of a sequel. Some other speculators were claiming that it was just a big, confusing rumor to begin with anyway and apparently that was the case. The update comes from the girl who plays Kaylee, named Jewel Staite in real life, who wrote a blog update (via CinemaBlend) about the whole fiasco. ”
