Can’t Stop The Serenity

Filed under: Cool Stuff, Firefly — doctorfeelgood @ 10:19 am

I didn’t post about this because I didn’t take a camera to take pix. This is a charity event put on by fans of Joss Whedon‘s creative efforts most notably Firefly, Serenity, Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Fans ask Universal to rent the movie Serenity and then ask a local theatre to rent them the night to play it. Fans then show up on Joss’s birthday (or around it) on June 23rd and a take of the ticket price goes to his favorite charity – Equality Now – which is a Women’s Rights charity. poster_final_300.jpgI went to ‘The Portage’ in Chicago on June 22nd and it was awesome to see Serenity on the big screen again! Plus, cash went to a great cause and it was awesome to hang with other Firefly-enlightened fans! ! !

Live Free or Die Hard

Filed under: Uncategorized — doctorfeelgood @ 9:45 am

Here is the $$$$$$$$$$$.  Here is the Fox site.

I loved it.  I have been a closet Willis fan forever since before Die Hard, from Moonlighting.  Read Kevin Smith’s blog – he says it well.

I was expecting it to be sucky like Lethal Weapon 4, but I was surpried – It ROCKS.  I disagree that Willis phoned it in.  It was John McLane at his best as always. He is aging but ageless, continues his role as the first action hero to be actually hurt from a fight and have blood and a dirty white shirt to show for it, a cool sidekick, a slightly non-typical bad guy, awesome-cant-happen-in-reality-over-the-top-boom-bang-owch fight action scenes awesome. The movie plot is plausible, the action is almost all nearly possible. The special effects are done well enough to not be a distraction. I agree with all of the positive reviews at RottenTomatoes.com and even agree with the negative stuff to a point – it is a mindless, fun action movie with Willis’s acting providing character and pathos. There is 40 seconds in the middle where we feel for the man who has lost it all saving our butts. It is awesome. I am looking forward to the DVD release and then the Quadrilogy DVD set 2009 Christmas set. I also think that Kevin Smith did a great job – awesome and now I discover his podcast. Nice.

I first heard about this at lunch and now it is world-wide on Digg with 110035005100+ digs.

Summary: The truck collided with wheelchair as the vehicle was leaving a gas station and the 21-year-old man was crossing the road. The wheelchair’s handles became lodged in the front grill of the truck. The unwitting truck driver then proceeded to travel west on Red Arrow Highway at speeds of approximately 50 mph

Paw Paw Michigan is a tiny town on my daily commute. Weird to have something this crazy happen close to home. I am guessing BoingBoing will pick it up soon too!Apparently not!

These friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise the money.

Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, the rival florist across the street thought the Competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him.

He asked his mother to go and ask the friars to get out of the business. They ignored her too. So, the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to “persuade” them to close.

Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he’d be back if they didn’t close up shop. Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that: Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars.

So it has been two weeks. . .
